Mislabeled Dairy/Parve

Yogen Fruz Frozen Yogurt Bars, bearing COR 459, were inadvertently labeled without a dairy designation. These products are dairy. Corrective measures have been taken.     COR, February 18, 2009.

Butter Flavored Pam in Israel, is OU-D (dairy). The small print says that the item is only suitable for those who use halav nochri (non-halav Yisrael milk). According to the OU, the international versions of Butter Flavored Pam are OUD, while Butter Flavored Pam in the US is OU Pareve.  Israeli Chief Rabbinate (translated by the Jerusalem Kosher News), and OU, February 16, 2010.

Wegmans Sour Apple Sorbet, bears an OU-D on the top lid but a plain OU on the front panel. Wegmans is changing from dairy equipment to parve, but the product should not be considered as parve until current supply is depleted. Labeling will then be corrected. Affected product is 1 pint size with a sell by date of approximately April 2010.              OU, February 10, 2010

Turkey Hill Chocolate Marshmallow Premium Ice Cream, is being recalled due to undeclared almonds. The product was distributed to stores in central Pennsylvania. The affected product is in1.5-qt. (48-oz./1.42L) containers and marked “01/18/2011 56/L1.” Preceding the code is a four-digit number indicating the production time. The recalled product includes a time between 02:25 and 02:35. Affected containers would have been purchased after January 28, 2010. Consumers may return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Whole Schmaltz Herring, Haifa Smoked Fish, Queens, New York: is being recalled because the product was found to be uneviscerated. Uneviscerated fish has been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning. The lot being recalled is a product of Norway, individually vacuum-packed in clear plastic pouches with lot # 20 indicated on the label and distributed through various food retailers in the NY and NJ area. Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled and should return it to the place of purchase. Supervision Changes & Withdrawals

Edelweiss Patisserie, has undergone changes at the facility, such that the Vaad Harabonim of New England now only certifies products that have a KVH-D symbol on the label.        The Rabbinical Council of New England, July 11, 2011.

Prime Sushi, 18250 Collins Avenue and 726 Arthur Godfrey Road, Miami will again be certified by Kosher Miami after agreeing to put new management in place. Kosher Miami will continue to monitor the situation.   Kosher Miami, July 1, 2011.

Quaker Oats S’mores Granola Bars, mistakenly bear an unauthorized OU-D on some individually wrapped bars. This product is not kosher. The item in question can be found in both cartons of S’mores and Variety Pack cartons. Corrective action is being taken. Thomas Kemper Purely Natural Vanilla Cream Handcrafted Soda, contains dairy ingredients as listed on the ingredient panel but the dairy designation has been inadvertently omitted. The amount of dairy is batel (nullified), in regard to kashrut laws. The product has been discontinued.       OU, July 18, 2011

Post Grape Nut Cereal, may contain a promotional Grape Nut cookie in a limited number of specially marked boxes. This product is not certified by OK Kosher Certification. The cookie is certified kosher and dairy by Kof-K as the packaging indicates.          OK, July 5, 2011

Today’s Temptations breads, are certified kosher only in those varieties bearing the cRc on the label. Certified varieties are parve and pat Yisrael. cRc, July 12, 2011

Hershey’s Strawberry Syrup, produced for export to Israel does not bear an OU symbol on the label. Mor Yam, an Israeli importer of Hershey’s Strawberry Syrup, has placed a sticker on top of the label, with an unauthorized OU symbol. At the current time, the Orthodox Union considers this product to be kosher and dairy, when the label indicates “Made in USA”.             OU, July 11, 2011.

Newman’s Own pasta sauces, are being sold in some stores in variety packs with three jars wrapped together in clear plastic. These wrapped jars may contain both kosher and non-kosher varieties of Newman’s Own pasta sauces. The OU symbol only appears on the kosher varieties. Evergreen Produce Alfalfa sprouts, may contain Salmonella Enteritidis, a pathogen different from the one in European outbreak and should be discarded. The sprouts are possibly linked to 20 reported cases, including one hospitalization. Product was distributed in Idaho, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota and Washington State. Consumers should discard them in a sealed container so people and animals, including wild animals, cannot eat them.          FDA, June 27, 2011
