Supervision Changes & Withdrawals

Edelweiss Patisserie, has undergone changes at the facility, such that the Vaad Harabonim of New England now only certifies products that have a KVH-D symbol on the label.        The Rabbinical Council of New England, July 11, 2011.

Prime Sushi, 18250 Collins Avenue and 726 Arthur Godfrey Road, Miami will again be certified by Kosher Miami after agreeing to put new management in place. Kosher Miami will continue to monitor the situation.   Kosher Miami, July 1, 2011.

Lay’s BBQ; BBQ Ribs; Fries and Gravy; Honey Mustard; Old Fashioned BBQ; Ruffles All Dressed; BBQ; and Wavy Lay’s Old Fashioned BBQ, have changed status from parve to dairy equipment (DE). The parve status of other COR certified potato chips, remains unchanged.         COR, June 15, 2011


Healthy Sweet Drinks, bear an unauthorized OU and are not certified by the Orthodox Union. They may also be dairy. The products are being withdrawn from the marketplace..    OU, July 21, 2011.

Quaker Oats S’mores Granola Bars, mistakenly bear an unauthorized OU-D on some individually wrapped bars. This product is not kosher. The item in question can be found in both cartons of S’mores and Variety Pack cartons. Corrective action is being taken. The other varieties of Granola Bars are correctly labeled OU-D.   OU, July 20, 2011

1time Airline, has been offering a so-called ‘Kosher Platter’ which is not supervised and has included non-kosher items. The Beth Din has offered its services in an effort to rectify this problem but have not received a response as yet.        Beth Din of Johannesburg, July 20, 2011.

BJ’s Wholesale Club freshly baked bagels, are displaying an unauthorized OU. The Orthodox Union does not certify any of the BJ’s bakeries. BJ’s Wholesale Club is changing their bags and is removing the bags with the OU.     OU, July 5, 2011

Miss Leone’s products, Leonard Mountain Inc., are not certified by the Orthodox Union. Some products, including mozzarella cheese stuffed olives, have an unauthorized OU symbol and contain non-kosher ingredients. Corrective measures are being implemented.             OU, July 5, 2011

Mislabeled Dairy/Parve

Planters Brittle Nut Medley, was inadvertently labeled without the dairy designation. The product contains yogurt covered raisins that are OU dairy. Corrective measures were implemented.         OU, July 20, 2011

Thomas Kemper Purely Natural Vanilla Cream Handcrafted Soda, contains dairy ingredients as listed on the ingredient panel but the dairy designation has been inadvertently omitted. The amount of dairy is batel (nullified), in regard to kashrut laws. The product has been discontinued.       OU, July 18, 2011

Post Grape Nut Cereal, may contain a promotional Grape Nut cookie in a limited number of specially marked boxes. This product is not certified by OK Kosher Certification. The cookie is certified kosher and dairy by Kof-K as the packaging indicates.          OK, July 5, 2011

Butterfly Bakery Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, are certified kosher and dairy by the Vaad Harabonim of New England. The dairy designation was inadvertently omitted from the kosher symbol on the label. Corrective action is being taken.    Rabbinical Council of New England, June 28, 2011.

American Nut products, which were previously labeled OU-D, will now be labeled OU. Products with the “D” should still be considered dairy. The parve products have a lot number of 061311 or greater.         OU, June 21, 2011.

“M” Ranch Creamy Meijer Dressing, mistakenly bears an OU symbol without the dairy designation. This product is actually dairy. Corrective measures were taken.OU, June 15, 2011.

Today’s Temptations breads, are certified kosher only in those varieties bearing the cRc on the label. Certified varieties are parve and pat Yisrael. cRc, July 12, 2011

Hershey’s Strawberry Syrup, produced for export to Israel does not bear an OU symbol on the label. Mor Yam, an Israeli importer of Hershey’s Strawberry Syrup, has placed a sticker on top of the label, with an unauthorized OU symbol. At the current time, the Orthodox Union considers this product to be kosher and dairy, when the label indicates “Made in USA”.             OU, July 11, 2011.

Newman’s Own pasta sauces, are being sold in some stores in variety packs with three jars wrapped together in clear plastic. These wrapped jars may contain both kosher and non-kosher varieties of Newman’s Own pasta sauces. The OU symbol only appears on the kosher varieties. 7-Eleven, on Reisterstown Road at Naylors Lane, Baltimore, MD, has purchased a hotdog maker and is grilling hot dogs which are advertised as “kosher” under the store’s own supervision. The Star-K does not recommend kosher supervision provided by gentiles or by an entity or individual who does not eat kosher themselves.    Star-K, June 20, 2011

Evergreen Produce Alfalfa sprouts, may contain Salmonella Enteritidis, a pathogen different from the one in European outbreak and should be discarded. The sprouts are possibly linked to 20 reported cases, including one hospitalization. Product was distributed in Idaho, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota and Washington State. Consumers should discard them in a sealed container so people and animals, including wild animals, cannot eat them.          FDA, June 27, 2011
