Subway, in Baltimore will no longer be kosher. The facility is being sold and will become a non-kosher Subway store. They will remove the “Kosher Subway – Star-K” sign above the store and place signs on each door stating, “This location is no longer kosher”. Nutty Naturals Choco Almond; Peanut; Pretzel and Raisin, have mistakenly been labeled with the OK-D symbol and are being recalled. These products are not certified by OK kosher certification.       OK on December 20, 2011.

Israeli olive oils: Tevel; Maayan Hashemen; and Katit Me’ulah Galilee Press among other, are produced with false and unauthorized certification claims. The National Rabbanut hechsher should be accepted on olive oil only if accompanied by a hologram. Tevel olive oil falsely claims certification from Badatz Beit Yosef. Mislabeled Dairy/Parve

Quaker Weight Control Instant Oatmeal cinnamon flavor and Banana Bread, mistakenly omitted the dairy designation from the label of a small amount of this product. These products are dairy and corrective measures were implemented.           OU, December 2, 2011.

Health Alerts

Greenwood Mushroom Farm sliced mushrooms, is being recalled because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.            CFIA, December 10, 2011.

Pacific International Marketing Cilantro, is being recalled because it may contain salmonella. A total of 6,141 cartons distributed in Pacific International Marketing packs of 60 bunches, 30 bunches and 20- 3 bunched sleeves. The bunched cilantro is labeled “Pacific” on the twist tie and bears UPC code 33383 80104 and 40695 80104. The product was distributed in California, Arizona, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Indiana, South Carolina, and Missouri through retailers. Cilantro purchased after November 16thbut before December 10this affected and consumers who have purchased affected product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Tejava Premium Iced Tea, is being recalled in 12 oz glass bottles, because they may contain glass fragments which could be harmful if swallowed. Production lots being recalled include UPC 6-54871-24901-2, four pack UPC 6-54871-04901-1, and single bottle UPC 6-54871-00901-5. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are asked to return the product to the store where it was purchased and coupons, product replacement, or credit will be issued. The 1 liter size of Tejava® Premium Iced Tea is not affected and is not part of this recall.  FDA, December 9, 2011.

Ocean Spray Original Flavor Craisins, is being recalled because it may contain metal pieces. Product sold in 5-ounce, 10-ounce and 48-ounce packages as well as bulk sweetened dried cranberries in 10-pound packages may contain very small hair-like metal fragments that are unlikely to cause consumer injury. No injuries or adverse effects have been reported regarding these products to date. No other Ocean Spray brand products are affected. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to destroy the product, save the UPC label and best by date and contact Ocean Spray            FDA, November 25, 2011.

Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter Chunky (16 oz.), is being recalled because it may be contaminated with salmonella. The affected product has UPC: 5150001701 (located on the side of the jar’s label below the bar code) production codes: 1307004 and 1308004 best-if-used-by dates: August 3, 2012 and August 4, 2012. The impacted product would have been purchased between November 8 – 17, 2011 No other products of The J.M. Smucker Company are affected by this recall. Bumble Bee Chocolate Crisp Organic Energy Bar, is being recalled because of undeclared allergens: milk, peanut, soy. The bars are stamped DE (dairy equipment). The product does not contain dairy ingredients, but is processed on the same line as dairy.    CFIA, November 4, 2011
